THE BOY OLIVER

CHARACTERS

DR. OLIVER REED

GRAHAM WHITFORD

Oliver is a very bright, soft-spoken young doctor. He’s direct with his language, adept in social situations, and very polite. Though close with Francine since childhood, Oliver chose to study medicine abroad, and the two haven’t seen each other in years. Upon news of her pregnancy, Oliver returns to honor a promise he once made.

ABBY GLOVER

MRS. FRANCINE ELLIS

A charming, delightful young lady, Francine excels at getting what she wants from the people around her. Having been sheltered her whole life, Francine harbors unrealistic expectations and is frightened by change. She had an opportunity to travel with Oliver overseas, but ultimately declined. She is now married to Thomas Ellis, and is pregnant with his child.

MR. THOMAS ELLIS

SAM BROOKS

Handsome and wealthy, Thomas proposes to Francine very quickly. Now faced with some hard truths concerning Francine’s medical history, Thomas contacts Oliver for help. Used to getting his way, the uncertainty surrounding the pregnancy has left Thomas emotional, exhausted, and quickly approaching burn-out. If he had to choose between Francine and the baby, he’d choose the baby.

MRS. AGNES COOKE

ASHLEY NOLAN

Agnes is a nursemaid that works for Thomas’s family, and has successfully delivered three of Thomas’s nieces, and four nephews. Quiet and respectful, Agnes is used to being treated like a servant and is used to being ignored; until Oliver arrives.

DR. HOWARD

CRAIG EMERSON

A former Civil War trauma surgeon, Dr. Howard is Oliver’s deceased mentor. He was the doctor who delivered Francine, and witnessed the death of Francine’s mother. He would teach everything he could remember about the circumstances of Francine’s birth to Oliver. Eventually retiring after developing “shakes,” Dr. Howard lived on a dairy farm close to Francine’s home, which he would eventually leave to Oliver.
