GXLATO - “BAD GUY” VIDEO TREATMENT

For GXLATO’s track “BAD GUY”, we take a bad breakup to a cinematic level, casting GXLATO as a samurai warrior, drawn into battle with the man who stole his girlfriend. Clean cinematography and striking visuals will pair with tongue-in-cheek humor, and thrilling action, to create a video that jumps off the screen.

VISUAL STYLE

For the visual style, I felt inspired by old school samurai/anime films like old Akira Kurosawa samurai movies, as well as the clean nature cinematography of Martin Scorsese’s “Silence”. The visuals will be cinematic and powerful. Nature and swaying trees, forests and giant hills will put us in the samurai’s world.

We’ll balance this cinematic approach with fast-paced action and quick cuts during a samurai sword fight, and raining blood during the performance to match an extreme Japanese anime style. It’s over the top, but that’s how a breakup can feel:

Equal parts visceral and funny. Extreme but funnily relatable.

For the video, we’ll have three characters:

GXLATO, his Ex-girlfriend, and his Nemesis: the guy-who-stole-his-girl.

INTRO:

During the spoken word voice over, we will show clips of GXLATO’s Ex-girlfriend in a kimono, and GXLATO’s Nemesis: the-guy-who-stole-his-girl, laughing and flipping off the camera. Before the title drop, GXLATO’s jaw drops when he sees the two together.

VIDEO:

GXLATO’s main visual performance will be him standing in a field wearing a samurai’s robe in a close up. Blood rains down from the sky, representing his pain and hurt. The dating life mirrors the life of a lone samurai. We see quick cuts of GXLATO riddled with arrows. The bright red with the green of the trees and nature will make this an amazing look. Very visually compelling.

Our main B-Roll shots will include some gorgeous wide shots of GXLATO in nature on a large hill, meditating, training with his sword, traveling the land etc. We’ll also see the Ex-Girlfriend and Nemesis posed up together, and make use of grainy black-and-white like old samurai movies.

Our last shots will follow a face-off between GXLATO and his Nemesis. The two sword fight in a field while the Ex-girlfriend watches. An epic samurai showdown.

We end with a SLICE!

GXLATO’s Nemesis falls to his knees. The Ex-girlfriend puts on a pair of sunglasses and runs away, leaving the two men to their fate. His Nemesis is heartbroken, while GXLATO laughs in his

As soon as his Nemesis dies, we follow GXLATO as he finally falls to the ground as well. The battle has no survivors, but GXLATO dies with a smile on his face.
